“I have repeatedly asked my son to use social networking sites in a restrained way. But it is of no use. He hardly pays any heed to my ‘chirping’.This is a statement made by one of my best friends.

This is nothing new ,almost every teen aged between 13–19 are so much drowned in this so-called virtual world that this kind of word hovers around their head putting the least effect on their mind to take any positive action.

Chatting for long hours ,surfing “best feeds” of own choice or sharing thoughts with analogous mentality are not bad choices! Who cares about time? “I am happy”.It is all about. “Do not disturb me”

Here a question arises-why will a teen want to quit such a “comfortable”, “attractive”, and “mind-soothing” source of pleasure. Is there any alternative that really allures him to replace it with something which is solely desired by their parents?

Of course, there is an alternative. Before going into detail about it, let me analyze why students get so much addicted to social media instead of doing studies or some productive activities.

Generally, when a teen starts their social media journey they are not initially addicted. With time passing they start to feel the opium of this kind of social networking site.

How they get affected?

The first interaction with social networking sites like Facebook Twitter Instagram etc. causes the easy secretion of our happiness hormone dopamine in the brain. That’s why they stick to it.It requires the least effort to feel that happiness in no time.

With time passing this interaction gets deep-rooted to their mind. Regular responses from these external stimuli make a pre-setup mental mechanism that responds only to these social media calls. Their brain is very quick to decide on this platform, as this is the source that can very easily attract students, it is called CZS(COMFORT ZONE STAYING)

According to Sigmund Freud, our pre-setup mental mechanism or sub-consciousness mind comprises 90% of our brain. It is responsible to take a final decision for man. It has been hotly debated whether there exists any sub-conscious mind or not. Most neuroscientists and psychologists differ from one another in this issue. Majority of the researchers conclude that it is the sub-conscious mind which is instrumental in decision-making.

In a study published in Current Biology dr. Michael Shadlen, the principal investigator at Mortimer B Zuckerman Brain Behavioral Institute, Columbia, held the view that the subconscious mind controls our decision-making power.

Wayout

Here are some tips which will definitely help to come out of this CZS problem.

● Make them realize the importance of permanent happiness which can be gained after performing target-oriented focussed effort.

● Help them to integrate the small daily productive goal-based effort with the ultimate goal. There can be a visual image of the ultimate target before them all the time, which will never distract them from the right track. They will be self-compelled to focus on their small daily productivity, which is nothing but a stair to reach the ultimate goal of destiny.

● Make them learn the truth that social media is not a life.It is a part of life that adds value to it, so they should prioritize their activity as per their importance.
